Reaction to The Woman Warrior
After reading the short selection from "The Woman Warrior" a few things struck me. First, I never knew that the Chinese regarded women in such a lowly sense as what was told in the story. I knew that they would have the women bind their feet to keep them from moving around too much, but i did not think that being a woman in itself was considered as such. And as i was reading the story, i could not help but imagine how it would be like to be the author in the situations she was in. Would i react the same way? Would i have done something else? And in relation to this, I was also struck at how she reacted towards her situation. Although at first she responded how any ignorant kid probably would have responded, she was able to move past that. Instead of throwing tantrums all the time or just staying bitter forever she decided to face her problems. Knowing that the problem she was facing was a big one, she did not give just give up. If you come to think of it, she was against a whole country and a whole way of thinking that had been passed down for generations. But she decided to fight.
