Under the Radar

This propaganda technique does not directly try to sell their product to the audience so I called it covert propaganda. One way of being able to do this is to make a viral video that does not really sell a product to the viewers. They just imply that the viewers should get or have a certain product. Once the video goes viral, thousands if not millions of people would have seen it. An example of this would be Hi-Tec’s advertisement that made use of a viral video called liquid mountaineering. Here, they showed a way of running on water, but could only be done with special shoes. It caught on because people thought it was real until they revealed it was an advertisement campaign.

Reaction to The Ngong Farm

What I like about this excerpt was how much time the author took to describe the entire place. The author really dissected the place into several parts and made sure that each place had a specific description. The author tried to fit in every detail into the story that it was so clear to the reader. But along with the description, the author was also able to incorporate feelings into the description. You could tell how the author felt about the place. I could certainly borrow this technique and add more life into my descriptions by incorporating them with certain feelings.

Reaction to Photographs Of My Parents

When I read this selection I was just amazed at how clear the author was able to describe the things she saw. I was amazed at how she found a way to make so easy for me to picture in my mind what she had seen. The details in her descriptions we specific and numerous but not confusing. She was able to arrange her thoughts in a way that was easy to follow, easy to grasp. I could learn a lot from how she describes things and how she makes things so clear.

Reaction to The Death Of A Moth

It is interesting how a person can just look to such simple little creatures to gain great insights into everyday life. It got me thinking, how we tend to forgo the little things that seem insignificant because we are too busy doing other things. So when we look to them we can't help but be amazed of how interesting these simple things can be. It does not have to be as morbid as death. It could be a spider forming its web. It could be anything. I can't help but imagine what it would be like if I just slowed down for a bit and observed all these.

Follow The Leader

It was a little past mid night and I was still up; just staring at the screen of my laptop while the rest of the household was already in bed. Dinner was several hours ago and I was getting hungry. I decided to get up, and proceeded down the stairs and on to the kitchen. I switched the lights on and brought the kitchen to life amidst the dead of night. I headed to the ref, looked inside and finally picked out a cup of yoghurt to eat. I set this down on the counter as I reached for a spoon. When my gaze drew back to my yoghurt I saw something moving. Then as I look closer I noticed several things moving.

A trail of ants were marching by close to where I had placed my cup of yoghurt down. With nothing else to do I decided to watch on as I slowly started to eat my little snack. The line just kept moving, one after the other. Moving in such uniformity, as if they were just copying the ones in front of them, the ants followed one another. They would all just follow this single file, just following the one in front. There was this one little fellow though that went off track and instantly you could see how confused the little thing got. Even if its fellow ants were right next to it, it was completely lost. It was going nowhere fast. Then after a while, it finally smartened up and traced its steps back to the trail.

Curious as to where they were going, I followed the trail that lead right into a spot where a bunch of crumbs had fallen. The ants were picking up these little masses of food over their heads and marched back from where they came. Nobody had to tell this to them, they just did it. They knew what they had to do.

This little world of the ants began to interest me. "Why were they like this?" I thought to myself. Then it hit me, they had purpose. They knew what they had to do and what they wanted to do. They marched on with all boldness because they had a goal. Once they lost this goal, they would wander, confused and getting nowhere. But once they set their priorities, they easily got back on track.

Then I hit the end of my little dip in the pool of my thought because I had finally finished my cup of yoghurt. I took one last look at the little black dots and could not help but wear a smile on my face.
